Kamayan

Mia Orino is a self-taught chef and baker who, despite having no formal culinary training or experience in the restaurant industry, launched the pop-up Kamayan with her husband in 2018 and opened their first brick-and-mortar location in 2023. With a background in public policy, she previously owned an eco-friendly residential and commercial cleaning company, which trained and employed minority women from a shelter in metro DC. Together with Carlo Gan, she co-founded a nonprofit organization that donates hot meals locally and provides food for children in orphanages in the Philippines.
